With the much anticipated release of Google’s Nexus 7 right around the corner, electronic retail giant Amazon is hoping to stifle the tablet competition with the release of their latest tablet, the Kindle Fire 2, at the end of July or in early August. The Amazon Kindle Fire 2 release date is expected between July 31 and Aug 7. Amazon doesn’t look to stop there, however. It’s also been reported that Amazon is revamping their first generation Kindle Fire with a quad-core processor and 10-inch screen and have a release date around the same time as the Kindle Fire 2.

According to PC Mag, “Through a translation, the China Times said the first wave of Kindle 2 tablets – about 2 million units – will likely hit shelves sometime between July 31 and Aug. 7, calling it a “counterattack” against Google’s Nexus 7.”

The Kindle Fire has been Amazon’s best selling item, but as of late has began trailing those of Apple and Samsung. Apple’s recent injunction filed against Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 looks to curtail Samsung’s stake in the tablet market and put Amazon back near the top.

The specs of the Kindle Fire 2 are impressive and will rival the Nexus 7 in aesthetics and functionality. The second generation tablet will feature a 7-inch screen with a 1280 x 800 resolution display and 216ppi pixel density. The outer casing also appears to be sleeker.

AllThingsD is also reporting that we’ll most likely “see a faster chip, improved graphics, and an updated version of the company’s fork of Android to support that new display.”

The biggest players in the tablet game will be Amazon with their upgraded Kindle Fire and latest Kindle Fire 2, Google with their Nexus 7, Samsung with their Galaxy Tab, and Apple with their iPad and upcoming iPad 3 poised to be released in October.

Even if most considered last holiday season to that of the tablet, will all of these new enhancements coming from the major players we should be in store for another huge tablet focuses holiday shopping season.
