An American 747 cargo jet crashed in Bagram, Afghanistan at approximately 7am on Monday directly after take off killing seven crew members. The plane was supposedly carrying military vehicles and other assorted cargo. A video taken from a dashboard camera captures the planes ascent, followed by a slight stall in mid-air, and finally the disastrous crash and explosion. The 747 plane crash video is below. NPR was able to pull a clip from The Aviation Herald, which states “According to a listener on frequency the crew reported the aircraft stalled due to a possible load shift.”

The plane was owned by American aviation company National Airlines which issued a statement by Glen Joerger saying,

“Safety is always our top priority at National Airlines. This is a devastating loss for our family and we’ll work diligently with authorities to find the cause. Most importantly, our thoughts and prayers are with our crewmembers and their families.”

The deceased were four pilots, two mechanics, and a load master who according to National Airlines responsible for making sure that the weight and balance of the cargo is appropriate. Five of the crew were thought to be from Michigan. National Airlines will work with the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board and Afghan officials to determine why the jet crashed.

One of the striking things about the actual video is the fact that a timestamp appears at the bottom bearing the date 13/02/01 prompting some skepticism as to the integrity and accuracy of the clip, though explanations such as lack of continuous power to the camera support its authenticity.
