If there’s one thing Ann Romney knows, it’s that she must make a good impression. So when she appeared on the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” Tuesday night in a shimmery smart, but sexy black outfit, she knew she had to win over audiences not with her politics, but her personality.

At the beginning of the show, she carefully dodged Jay Leno’s attempts to discuss the “47%” video that blew up last week’s news cycle; her statement was simple but classy: “We care about the 100%.” With her legs crossed, and perfect blonde curls in tact, she coyly led Leno to the issue she most wanted to discuss: her family.

And who better to start with than the candidate himself? “We met at this party and my heart was just like womp womp,” Ann beamed as she sweetly recalled the beginning of their love story. As for her five “stinky” teenage sons? She was more than willing to share the intimate, embarrassing moments of their family life.

Leno hoped to bring out this super-Mom’s catty side when he asked her about Michelle Obama, but Ann wouldn’t bite. “She’s a beautiful woman, a strong woman, and doing a great, great service for this country,” she said dotingly of Michelle.

Overall, the appearance can only improve the Romney reputation positively. Ann appealed to audiences by proving she was just your typical, loving American mother, but did so with the class and grace of a potential first lady.
