New York-based real estate firm Tishman Speyer closed on a $70 million purchase of nine acres in South Boston’s Seaport, a site formerly home to Anthony’s Pier 4, a landmark restaurant which closed in 2013.

Tisham Speyer expects to start construction on two mixed-use buildings, which would house offices, condos, and restaurants, sometime in 2015, reports The Boston Globe. Plans also include filling a vacant Anthony’s parcel with a one-acre waterfront park.

Tishman Speyer co-CEO Rob Speyer told The Globe his company considers the Seaport “one of the most exciting mixed-use developments in the country,” adding that the company intends to turn the site into “something spectacular.”

New England Development secured approval from the Boston Redevelopment Authority to build a one million-square foot mixed-use development at Pier 4. But, with some of the developers large-scale plans stalling, Tishman Speyer swooped in and purchased the New England Development’s undeveloped property.

New England Development agreed to terms with Hanover Co. to build a Northern Avenue apartment building, which is set for completion in the spring, the Globe reports.

Tishman Speyer’s plans for a 13-story office complex, designed by Boston architect Elkus Manfredi, and a 9-story condo still need BRA approval. The developer says it will start construction by the end of 2015 with or without an office tenant signed.
