It’s September here in the Hub, and while we are all sad to say so long to summer, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate the start of a new season. Topping that list is fall fashion.

In case you missed it, Boston is in the midst of fashion evolution. We’re coming into our own as a city of style, shaped by our dynamic creative class and thriving startup scene. The fashion industry here in the Hub does more than rip looks from the runway. It is innovative, edgy, and always looking ahead.

In the spirit of Boston style and in honor of the arrival of autumn, we thought a fall fashion preview was in order—but not just any survey of the style scene, one with a futuristic twist. We’re talking trends in wearable technology.

Ever since the launch of Google Glass, FitBit, and a slew of smart watches, wearable tech has become less of a science fiction fantasy and more a reality for consumers. Clothing and accessories that track your activity, alert you of appointments, and even anticipate your needs are no longer just wonders witnessed on the Jetsons, but very real possibilities of everyday life.

While wearables have yet to truly catch on outside the nerdier set, all that is beginning to change. The latest in wearable tech doesn’t sacrifice aesthetics for application. It’s only a matter of time before the world of high tech and high fashion converge.
