Academic administration shuffle here among our local universities. Current Tufts University Associate Provost Vincent Manno will leave the school in July to join Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering in Needham, Mass. as its next provost and dean of faculty. Manno has been a faculty member at Tufts since 1984, becoming chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1993, and in 2002 taking the position of associate dean of engineering. He will be in charge of Olin’s academic programs and student life.

“I’ve always been very interested in engineering education, and the fact that Olin is trying to basically shift the paradigm of how undergraduate engineering education is structured was really the exciting possibility for me,” Manno said.

Olin College officially opened in 2002 and has quickly become world renowned for its innovative engineering curriculum and hands-on learning. According to their sit: “Olin College seeks to redefine engineering as a profession of innovation encompassing 1) the consideration of human and societal needs; 2) the creative design of engineering systems; and 3) the creation of value through entrepreneurial effort and philanthropy. The College is dedicated to the discovery and development of the most effective educational approaches and aspires to serve as a model for others.”
