As we continue to jog closer to the 2014 Boston Marathon, slated to take place on April 21, the Boston Athletic Association will be announcing new security measures Monday.

Though the BAA has already released a number of regulations to further bolster security, like the prohibition of certain bags and other items where spectators are expected to gather.

It’s unclear at this point what the new measures will entail, but according to the Associated Press, officials from the eight communities through which the marathon route runs will be meeting “at the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency’s headquarters in Framingham.”

The officials will be representative of the local, state and federal governments and have already been meeting for months in hopes of preventing another catastrophe like the one that still rings fresh in the minds of Bostonians from one year ago.

This year, continues the AP, “police are expecting about 36,000 runners and up to a million spectators.”
