Babson College, known for its entrepreneurial education, recently announced expansion of a satellite campus for its graduate program in San Francisco. And now they are expanding their entrepreneurial curriculum to top-performing high school students in a new Summer Study Programs initiative.

The initiative includes two programs — the Babson Idea Generation (BIG) Program and the Babson Entrepreneur Development Experience. Each aim to provide a “living/learning lab” for high school students to learn and apply business and entrepreneurial knowledge.

“We find that many college applicants already have experience as entrepreneurs and changemakers but without any formal training,” explained  Michael Chmura, Babson’s Director of PR. “These courses give them college level learning that can help them with current efforts or inspire them as they make decisions about their future.”

And for rising high school juniors and seniors immersing themselves in the program, it is a sure way for them to separate themselves in the ever-increasing competitiveness of college applications.

In fact, these high school students will actually earn 4 college credits for the program and live like a college student right on Babson’s campus. They may also opt to take a second, 3-credit class in courses like macroeconomics, accounting, business law, calculus or even liberal arts classes. These courses are offered in Babson’s traditional summer program for undergraduates.

The two programs are outlined below:

  • BIG Program: For the aspiring changemaker who wishes to create innovative, real-world solutions to social, economic, and environmental issues—now. The student must want to develop his/her problem-solving skills and work in a challenging and fun team environment.
  • Babson Entrepreneur Development Experience: For the current or aspiring entrepreneur who wants to discover how to fit his/her business idea into the greater world picture through lessons of corporate citizenship and business development.

Each program lasts seven weeks, and includes classes with Babson faculty, cases, speakers, events and other resources in a collaborative environment. Weekdays are spent in the classroom, and weekends are spend being immersed in Boston’s entrepreneurial, business, and entertainment.

The programs are being offered at a cost of $7,380 that includes a room and meals at Babson. Babson has even put together a concise “day in the life” so students can get a sense of what to expect.

For high school students looking to take advantage of the program, the deadline for application is March 1, 2010. You can learn more here on their website, and if you have specific questions Babson encourages you to email them here.
