Salted meat and frothy goodness: Yum!

They say every man has a mission and Aaron Cohen of Eat Boston is championing the reputation of bacon. People aren’t taking bacon seriously anymore and that’s one of the problems Cohen is trying to solve with Boston’s first Bacon and Beer Festival on April 24th at the SoWa Power Station.

If you’re from Boston and haven’t heard about the sold-out Bacon and Beer Festival– it might be time to re-evaluate your social network.

Cohen, the man behind the legendary Eat Boston gave us the lowdown on the Bacon and Beer Festival. In case you missed the news, Eat Boston and SoWa Sundays are bringing restaurants and breweries together that truly appreciate bacon and beer for a day of sampling the best bacon and beer in Boston.

Before we break out the bacon and beer– who’s behind this?

Eat Boston started off as a Twitter account discussing restaurants in Boston that had good food and were involved with the community. It has since turned into a citywide phenomenon. Cohen has the inside scoop on what’s going on in all of Boston’s restaurants; expect twitpics of pizza, live tweeting during chow down time, and Facebook posts about what Boston is eating for lunch if you follow @EatBoston. SoWa Sundays in Boston is an awesome open market bazaar in the South End.

Eat Boston now has 9,072 Twitter followers and 1,048 Facebook fans, pair that interested community with the SoWa supporters  and you have a sold-out Beer and Bacon Festival. There wasn’t any money spent on marketing for the Bacon and Beer Festival, Eat Boston and SoWa Sundays relied solely on word-of-mouth marketing and hype.

The Internet buzz around the Bacon and Beer Festival has brought in over 40 restaurants and breweries all looking to fill your stomachs with good bacon and beer. Money raised from ticket sales and auctions will benefit a list of just causes that includes the Community Servings, Share Our Strength, South End Youth Baseball, and The Juniper Fund.

The Bacon and Beer fest is also hosting live music from East Coast Soul.

While tickets are sold-out, there’s still hope for those who want to attend on April 24. Eat Boston will be hosting some auctions and drawings for Bacon and Beer Festival tickets. Make sure you’re watching the Eat Boston Twitter account at all times; no excuses, you’ve got to get some bacon and beer. You’ll have to be single minded if you want to get your beer and bacon fix.
