We have all experienced those nights with friends trying to determine what bar or club to hit up, especially since some of the hundreds in Boston can be so hit-or-miss. And if you haven’t been to a particular place before, you have probably wondered about what the scene is like, what people are wearing, and how much of a hotspot it is. Barspace.tv, currently in Beta, aims to answer all those questions.

Based out of California, Barspace.tv is launching in Boston tonight. The company aims to be a social networking site around bars and venues, branding themselves as “Beyond Facebook and Twitter: The most cutting edge nightlife marketing site yet.” Barspace.tv’s key feature: live, streaming webcams at participating venues that allow you to check out what is happening in real-time. Venue pages on Barspace also feature the standard venue information, photos, “top patrons,” menus, printable or text-based vouchers and specials, and any upcoming events. Venues can also post announcements on their pages, which can be pushed to user’s phone along with specials if they choose to opt-in to the service.

To supplement their online site, Barspace.tv has an iPhone app to take on the go. This way, when you are debating whether to leave the bar you are currently at to head to another, you don’t have to rely on a friend who’s already there inside’s take on the guy to girl ratio and can get a true sense of what it is really like. Better yet, and in good time with the oncoming rough Boston winter months, you can decide whether or not a venue’s line is worth waiting in.

Barspace.tv boasts reaching 30,000+ viewers a month (and their Compete traffic shows uniques in September just over 5,500). Barspace.tv charges venues $700 to install the camera and a $150 per month service charge thereafter. The package includes 2,000 text message pushes, and $0.05 per text after that threshold is met. Their iPhone app already has 5,000 downloads and an average 4-star review from 151 people.

Currently in the Boston area, Barspace has on-boarded eight bars: 29 Newbury, All Asia, Bull McCabe’s Pub, La VerdadOm Lounge, On The Hill Tavern, The Plough and Stars, and Tommy Doyle’s. Having already on-boarded 84 different venues in California, you can expect Barspace.tv to expand their Boston footprint more in the upcoming months.

Tonight, Barspace is holding their Boston launch party at 29 Newbury from 9pm to 1am. If you head over, you can enjoy their current featured special — a free appetizer with purchase of one drink. Check out what’s happening now at the party by visiting their live cam here.
