First, there was Friendsgiving. And now? The annual Yankee Swap. Mixed in with all those office parties and family get-togethers, this fete should be the most fun to dress for. Rue Assistant Stylist Emma L. shows us how it’s done.

Women
“This may be a holiday gathering with your closest friends, but it’s still a fun opportunity to get extra festive,” Emma says. “A crisp white blazer over a sleeveless polka dot blouse makes cooling off during a dance party a snap. And the gold-and-cream color palette is fresh without feeling too literal.”

Men
“A full suit is a bit on the formal side, and a T-shirt should be saved for that morning-after brunch run. But rolled-up jeans and a sport coat worn over a white button-down hits just the right note,” she says. “Nice sneakers (ahem, not what you play basketball in) make the look less formal. As for the accessories? Keep them holiday-appropriate, a.k.a. a red tie and festive pocket square.”
