If you’ve spent any time outside today, you know that summer is unofficially here. And along with the warmer temps and pleasant weather comes the promise of numerous ice cream-filled cones in the coming months. Let’s face it, nothing says summer quite like the first frosty scoop of the season – despite the fact that the sugary treat somewhat clashes with getting bathing suit-ready. But it’s worth the calories, right?

And fortunately for our state’s sweet tooth, Massachusetts also happens to be home to two of the best ice cream shops in the country. At least, according to Thrillist’s new list of the 21 Best Ice Cream Shops in America.

The selective list included both Dairy Joy in Weston, MA and the always popular Toscanini Ice Cream in Cambridge. Those of you who have paid a visit to the legendary suburban shop, Dairy Joy, may not realize that the spot has actually been open since 1927. Thrillist says that if you go, you’re ordering the Javaberry or Creamsicle because as they say “some things are better when they don’t change.” We couldn’t agree more with this.

And thankfully for Bostonians, an even closer shop made the Best Ice Cream list. Toscanini Ice Cream, located near Central Square in Cambridge, offers some of the most exceptional and unique ice cream flavors around town. If you haven’t yet visited the shop, we suggest adding this one to your ice cream bucket list.

Thrillists recommends stuffing “yourself with either Malted Vanilla, Hydroz Cookie, or their famous Burnt Caramel…” while visiting Toscanini. But really – any of their flavors will do just fine.
