Move over, Questlove. There’s a new leading man in the world of late night TV house bands, and it’s Fred Armisen.
Buzz had surrounded the ‘Late Night’ circuit ever since Jimmy Fallon officially decided to make the move to ‘Tonight’ in place of Jay Leno – what would Seth Meyers do for his show’s music? It seemed as though any plans to compete with Jimmy’s Roots would be hopeless, and producers questioned whether or not to host a band or a DJ during the NBC show hosted by Meyers. But it seems they’ve made the right decision, assigning Meyers’ ‘SNL’ alum to the stage every night. What more could we ask for?
Armisen’s band, dubbed the 8G Band with Fred Armisen, made its debut earlier this afternoon when Meyers tweeted the above photo:

The @LateNightSeth Twitter account followed up with the following announcement, featuring the video in which Armisen takes on Questlove in a drum-off on Jimmy Fallon’s show. Intentional foreshadowing..?
*drum roll please* Beyond excited to announce Fred Armisen will be joining #LNSM as @SethMeyers’ band leader! http://t.co/gN0mWCPUBj #8GBand
