It’s officially Spring, Boston. Not because the Vernal Equinox says so, or because the Red Sox competed on opening day (and came out with a loss). It’s because Hubway has announced that they’re reopening system-wide operations in Boston, Brookline and Somerville after a long winter hibernation on Wednesday, April 2.

As if that’s not incentive enough to head down to the reopening day party hosted by New Balance at the New Balance Experience Store in Boston, consider this: free food will be provided by Boloco (assuming the dire guacamole shortage comes under control) and Ben & Jerry’s.

And that’s not all. Mayor Marty Walsh, who’s already exemplified his commitment to bettering Boston’s bike scene in a plethora of manners, will speak around 12:30 p.m. at the party.

“Mayor Walsh is thrilled to be reopening Hubway,” said Nicole Freedman, Director of the city’s Boston Bikes program, in a statement. “It’s really become part of the transportation fabric of Boston.”

Did we mention Wally the Green Monster will also be make in attendance?

Along with free food and a slate of star-studded appearances, Hubway and partners will be giving away New Balance shoes, Hubway memberships, Hub On Wheels registrations, gift certificates and other bike-related swag to help set you in the biking mood.

Hubway ceased operations in all of the aforementioned cities except for Cambridge during the winter due to the obvious limitations faced by bikers from Boston’s harsh and seemingly endless winters.

According to Hubway, 1,300 bikes will be distributed over the 140 stations throughout Boston, Brookline, Cambridge and Somerville. Recent expansions saw bike share stations spring up in Boston’s outer neighborhoods like Jamaica Plain and Dorchester, and ten more are on the docket for the this year. The Seaport was also afforded two stations on the campus of the Design Center for those looking to explore the ever-evolving Innovation District.

The reopening party will mark the debut 0f more than 100 stations across Hubway’s system. The other 40 will open in the near future, just in time for Boston’s beautiful spring weather to pull us from the throes of winter.
