Maine-based digital marketing company Zylo Media officially launched their latest mobile and online advertising platform, BoodleUp, in the Greater Boston area. The company received $400,000 in seed funding back in January and launched a successful beta-test in its hometown of Portland, ME.

The idea behind BoodleUp is simple in nature and allows for companies to successfully drive consumer engagement. Users play free mobile or online chance-type games in hopes of winning over 150 unique, popular, brand name products. When a user wins a prize offering, they have the option to accept or decline. The fun twist is that if a user accepts a prize, they are subjected to a varied “lockout period” (a day, week, month, etc.) that makes the user consider whether that respective prize is worth the accompanied lockout time.

More than being entertaining, the platform is creating new and possibly more sustainable way for companies to market their products. It allows businesses—local, regional, and national alike—to create a strong rapport with customers without leaving them feeling manipulated by the likes of spam emails, banner ads, and TV spots.

For the skeptics and pessimists out there, BoodleUp has proven its worth. Thomas Wilson, Director of Marketing at Gritty McDuff’s Brewing Company agrees. “We had an extremely successful experience with BoodleUP and the team at Zylo Media during the pilot in Portland, Maine,” he said in a release. “It provided offers designed to bring customers into our brew pubs without discounting our products and brand.”

BoodleUp is available for download on the iPhone and iPad, and currently represents products and services of 35 Boston-area companies.
