With Labor Day, Allston Christmas, and the summer months behind us, it’s time to start anew. And even though you’re putting away your white jeans and purchasing your first pumpkin spice latté of the season, this week’s 90-degree weather and humidity index doesn’t exactly make it feel like September has started. So, keep up your long-weekend momentum with all the events going on this week in the city.

Tuesday

Randall Munroe at Harvard Book Store – 6 to 8 p.m. – Harvard Book Store – Randall Munroe, the creator of the webcomic xkcd and the author of book “What If?: Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions” will be at Harvard Book Store tonight to discuss his popular stick figure comics and his new book. This event was originally scheduled for Thursday, September 4.

Gallery Night Series: Robert Menton of Alistair Archer – 6 to 8:30 p.m. – Liberty Hotel – Robert Menton is a Boston artist who has founded his own contemporary womenswear line, Alistair Archer. See his work on display tonight at the Liberty Hotel. Free admission.

Wednesday

Canines and Cocktails Says Farewell to Summer – 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. – TAMO Terrace – To celebrate the end of their summer series, Canines and Cocktails is hosting a benefit for the Animal Rescue League. There will be raffles, food and drink, dog treats and more, and all proceeds will be donated to the ARL.

Fall Music Series – 6 to 9 p.m. – Bella Luna Restaurant and Milky Way Lounge – The Wednesday night Summer Music Series at the Milky Way Lounge in Jamaica Plain was such a success, they’re continuing it into the fall. Kicking off this week with the Van Burens, check back every Wednesday for a new live band. The shows are sponsored by Harpoon, free and open to all ages.

Pizza and JavaScript Art in the North End – 7 to 10 p.m. – Christopher Columbus Park – Evelyn Eastman, who helped build Scratch at MIT, satirical bot maker Darius Kazemi and Open Web artist Kawandeep Virdee are joining together to make art using code this Wednesday night at Christopher Columbus Park. There will be a live viewing on a projector as well as free pizza.

Summer Fling – 7:30 p.m. – Oberon – A special one-night-only show is going down this week at Oberon. The American Repertory Theater brings you “Summer Fling,” during which local comedians and writers will recount their hottest, wildest and weirdest summer flings, featuring music by avant-garde drag ensemble Pleasure Drone. Tickets start at $10.

Jeff Bridges & the Abiders – 8 p.m. – The Wilbur – Jeff Bridges is bringing his band, Jeff Bridges & the Abiders, to the Wilbur Theater for one performance off of the band’s debut album, “Natural.” Tickets start at $40.

Thursday

Cheeseburgers in Paradise: Self Help Africa End of Summer Party – 5 to 11 p.m. – Central Wharf Co. – Join the Glynn Hospitality Group, IN-Boston and BIBA for a night of cheeseburgers, drinks and networking to support Self Help Africa. Cheeseburgers will be served for $10, and $7 of those sales will be donated to the organization, while 100 percent of Deep Eddy Vodka cocktail sales will be donated.

Mingle for a Mission – 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. – Loretta’s Last Call – Join Loretta’s Last Call and Friends of the Red Cross for a party for a good cause. Tickets are $5 and include appetizers as well as a raffle ticket, and proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross.
