Friday

Food Better – 3 to 5 p.m. – Harvard University – Want to help improve the food system? Harvard is hosting a free, public discussion surrounding the topic, featuring panel talks and breakout sessions working toward problem solving.

Harpoon Octoberfest – October 3 & 4 – Harpoon Brewery – There’s no better way to ring in the fall season than at Harpoon’s Octoberfest, taking place this Friday and Saturday at the brewery. The $20 cover gets you into the festivities, plus one beer, along with live music. Brewery tours are also available during the party.

Saturday

Sun BrewFest – October 4 & 5 – Mohegan Sun – Head to Mohegan Sun for their seasonal Sun BrewFest, a beer festival offering craft beer samples from a variety of brewers. Weekend packages are available, and there’s also a BrewBrunch on Sunday morning. 

Sound of Our Town – 3 p.m. – Lawn on D – Presented by the Boston Music Awards, head to Lawn on D for a free afternoon show, curated by Vanyaland. The event will feature music from Eli Paperboy Reed, Speedy Ortiz, Quilt, Dutch Rebelle and more, kicking off the BMA season of events.

College Fashion Week Boston – 6 to 9 p.m. – The Estate – College Fashion Week, hosted by Boston-founded Her Campus, kicks off its national tour on Saturday night at The Estate. Guests who want to attend can apply for tickets on the Her Campus event page.

Downeast Flight Night – 6 to 9 p.m. – Downeast Cider House – Special cider flights, growlers, full pours and more will be available at the Downeast Cider House in Charlestown this Saturday night. Free to attend, pay as you drink.

Sunday

Boston Fashion Week – October 5-11 – Multiple venues – A weeklong series of events will showcase local designers, collections, stylists and fashion technology during Boston Fashion Week. The schedule has been posted, and this year’s event will be dedicated to the late Marilyn Riseman.

Bikes & Bites 2014: A Culinary Bike Tour – 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. – Tryst Restaurant – Tryst’s fourth annual culinary bike tour will take riders on an excursion to the best local flavors around town, all accessible by bike. Start at Tryst at 11 a.m. and travel to two local farms in Carlisle and Lexington, before finishing off with a multi-course dinner at Tryst. Tickets are $40.

Smoke This Rib Fest – 12 to 4 p.m. – Cambridge Street – The East Cambridge Association is hosting the annual Rib Fest this Saturday, which invites Cambridge chefs to go head to head in smoking and cooking the best ribs. Guests who purchase Taster Tickets can sample 10 different ribs and then vote for the best.

Mollusk Mania – 1 to 3 p.m. – Legal Harborside – Legal Sea Food’s Oyster Festival is coming to an end this Sunday, and it’s going out with a bang. Head to Legal Harborside for Mollusk Mania, where they’ll shuck eight different seasonal oysters, as well as pass around creative oyster-based apps.
