Starting on Friday, July 11, and occurring every week thereafter until August 29, Faneuil Hall Marketplace will afford tourists and Bostonians alike an experience that goes well beyond the realm of local history. The 12th annual Arts on the Arcade is slated to commence and will take place in the shadow of the studly statue of Samuel Adams.

Essentially a public market chock full of craftspeople, art vendors and live musical performances, Arts on the Arcade is yet another exemplification of the city’s commitment to arts and culture in an increasingly digitzed world.

While some people think Boston’s artsy sentiment is just in its beginning stages, the reality is we’re in the midst of a renaissance. Arts on the Arcade has been around for more than a decade, and Mayor Walsh’s push for more public arts initiatives, in part, are built upon the foundations laid by the Mayor Tom Menino’s administration.

The idea of Arts on the Arcade is to resemble “a lively and festive European marketplace,” according to the city’s Tourism, Sports, and Entertainment department. Looking for a glass terrarium necklace? Done. In the market for a picturesque landscape oil painting? Look no further. How about a set of origami crane earrings? You know where to go. And of course, there will be plenty of Boston-centric works as well.

You can check out the City’s entire art calendar right here. Arts on the Arcade, specifically, will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday morning and last until 5 p.m. that evening. It takes place on Samuel Adams park which is the outdoor space just outside Faneuil Hall, where the statue of Adams stands guard over the historical plaza.
