It’s a typical weekend conundrum – you want to watch the game, but you aren’t sure where to go. You’re sick of your neighborhood spot – and maybe every other sports bar in the city. We hear ya. Fortunately, one of the most well-known sports bars in Fenway, Cask ‘n Flagon, has upped their game with a revamped menu and made-from-scratch cocktails.

The well-known sports bar, which opened their doors back in 1969, has managed to move with the times – recently differentiating themselves from other sports bars in town. With hand-crafted cocktails created from fresh-squeezed juices, homemade syrups and infusions made in-house, Cask ‘n Flagon is no longer your typical beer bar.

Here, the owner of Cask ‘n Flagon, Dana Van Fleet, and beverage director, Mike Pavone, explain to BostInno what makes the iconic Fenway sports bar so special (and tasty).

Marian White: What makes Cask ‘n Flagon stand out from other sports bars in the area?

Dana Van Fleet: Our father and his partners started Cask ‘n Flagon back in 1969 and now, the second generation is operating the restaurant. There have been many celebrities and athletes alike that have frequented The Cask. Johnny Pesky once told me how he and Ted Williams used to love to come over to Cask ‘n Flagon after a game and hang out at the bar together.

MW: If you had to order one drink on the Cask ‘n Flagon menu, what would it be?

Mike Pavone: The Cask Sangria, which is fresh juices squeezed into a wine glass followed by different rums and a Cabernet. It’s delicious no matter the time of year.

DVF: The Cask VIP. With the 30-day infusion process, as well as the meticulous crafting it requires to create it, it produces the freshest cocktail I’ve ever tasted and goes well all year round!

MW: What is everyone eating and drinking these days?

DVF: Unlike years past when our guests were coming in for wings and nachos, they are now enjoying an expansive menu created by our Executive Chef, Donley Liburd. Our guests see menu items such as Malaysian-Style Ribs, Fig & Goat Cheese Bruschetta, Braised Short Ribs, Chicken Parmigiana and Fish Tacos as well as our new authentic BBQ selections, which are slow smoked in-house! All of our menu items are prepared from scratch with the freshest of ingredients.

MP: On the beverage front, guys tend to cleanse the palate with one of the many hand-crafted beers while their girlfriends enjoy our cocktails like the Cask VIP that is infused with the finest vodka and fresh pineapples.

MW: What serves as the inspiration behind the unique cocktails served at Cask ‘n Flagon?

MP: Guests are looking for the freshest ingredients in their meals and that is what our Executive Chef, Donley Liburd, does behind the scenes in his scratch kitchen. So to complement our culinary program, we pair the menu with the finest hand-crafted beers and the freshest, made-from-scratch cocktails.

MW: What are the three words you use to describe Cask ‘n Flagon?

DVF: Good times, great food and the best atmosphere!
