The weekend is finally upon us, which means that we’re even closer to our well-deserved Thanksgiving break. But before everyone parts ways for those holiday-filled days, we might as well take advantage of the city night life. Last week, we brought you news of Boston’s newest high-end nightclub, Whisky Saigon. And while that sounds like fun if you’re into the club scene, many others would prefer a night at a swanky bar without the “untz untz” bass vibrating their speech.

We hear ya, which is why this week we’re featuring an after midnight activity that is slightly more tame. If you’re fancying a classy cocktail and some jazz late into the night, then head to The Beehive. Truly the best of both worlds, this South End restaurant turns into a high-stylin jazz club after 10 p.m. and of course, it goes until long-past midnight.

If you decide to venture off the sofa and into the South End this Saturday night, I recommend heading to hear the improvisational jazz tunes of Water Seed. The band’s music is described as “musical gumbo… suited-up sophistication of jazz threaded with party funk of Parliament.” Intrigued?

I, myself, could go for some musical gumbo once Saturday night rolls around. The entertainment is sure to keep you energized even after the clock strikes midnight. And while you’re there, you better be prepared for The Beehive’s delicious libations.

I recommend the Queen Bee cocktail with Skyy Vodka, grapefruit, St. Germain and Champagne. Or if you’re more of a bourbon person (like myself), try the Kentucky Orchard cocktail with butter infused bourbon, Bitter Truth Pimento Dram and fresh apple cider. Both are equally delish and will make your night out worth the effort.

The band will play from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. – leaving you plenty of time to get your jazz and cocktail fix. Maybe it’s just my southern-born opinion but that “musical gumbo” and bourbon are certainly making everything good happen after midnight.
