If you’re looking for a date idea this Valentine’s Day that’s a bit more low-key than a fancy schmancy dinner, you’re in luck. Two of Boston’s very own gastropubs have recently been deemed pretty darn amazing by Food & Wine.

Both Stoddard’s Food & Ale and The Gallows made the coveted list of “Best Gastropubs in the U.S.” – only reconfirming Boston’s prowess where pub food and craft beer are concerned.

According to Food & Wine, “the only thing more impressive than the bar at Stoddard’s — which stands 15 feet high and 30 feet long and was imported from the UK — is the beer list.” Quite a ringing endorsement for the downtown bar located near the Boston Common on Temple Place.

The magazine also goes on to praise the gastropub’s “hearty pub fare” as well as “ever-changing roster of brews.”

As for The Gallows, located in the South End, the Boston gastropub is praised for its “weekly-changing seasonal menu” and brews that are “regional favorites” including Jack’s Abby and Long Trail.

But whichever gastropub you prefer, we commend Food & Wine for recognizing two of the best food and brew spots in the Hub. Now back to those Valentine’s Day plans…
