Is there really anything better than cozying up with a mug filled to the brim with warm apple cider in the winter time? Actually, yes there is – it’s cozying up with spiked apple cider. Because when it’s freezing outside, all you need is a slight buzz and hot cider to warm you right up. Which is why, on a very cold Tuesday night, I decided to venture out and find the best mulled cider in the city.

After all, it doesn’t get much better than hot cider and whipped cream. And whether you like cocktails or not, I think everyone can agree that apple cider plus alcohol equals a solid winter libation. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, wouldn’t it be great if you could mix the drink right at home for the fam? Here’s where to imbibe on a great mulled cider in Boston — and how to make it.

Buy It

Despite the twenty-something temps outside, I crossed the river into Boston’s up-and-coming seaport district to check out Gather. And just like the name implies, the new restaurant and bar has quickly become a popular after-work gathering spot. Their Mulled Cider served up in a warm glass at the bar tastes exactly how you would want your mulled cider to taste. The warm, crisp cinnamon apple taste is present but not overtaken by the ginger liqueur. And the whipped cream atop the hot drink is the perfect ending to every sip.

But if the Seaport District is just a tad far on a cold night…

Make It

Then stir it up right right in your own cozy home. It only takes a few ingredients, a tea kettle and a stove to create one tasty glass of mulled cider. And you have all of that, right? We thought so. Here’s how to make Gather’s Mulled Cider right at home.
