Everyone and their grandmother has heard of Boston’s acclaimed Freedom Trail, the spine that runs through the city’s most historically significant locales. But we’re a forward-thinking city, one that not only celebrates its esteemed past but is also a pioneer in paving the way for innovation. Some Bostonians are taking this notion to heart, borrowing the idea of the Freedom Trail and putting a next-generation spin on it. I give you the Innovation Trail.

On Sunday September 28, Bob Krim – Associate Professor & Director, Entrepreneur Innovation Center at Framingham State University – and Scott Kirsner – Boston Globe and Beta Boston tech and entrepreneur writer – will lead a tour of the Innovation Trail beginning in close proximity to the Park Street, Government Center, State Street, and Downtown Crossing T stops and winding its way through Cambridge.

As Kirsner wrote for the Globe back in 2013, this isn’t merely a tour of Boston’s future in innovation. It touches upon Boston’s entrepreneurial and groundbreaking past, makes note of contemporary strides, and, of course, takes a peek into what could be forthcoming.

Not only will tour-goers be afforded the opportunity to learn about aspects of Boston history not centered around defiant tea parties, revolutionary declarations and bloody hilltop battles, but they’ll gain access to “some cool historic places like the Ether Dome at Mass General,” suggested Kirsner in a Monday morning BetaBoston article.

Ever wanted to see where famous inventors Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell did their tinkering? Or check out some of the facilities that have brought MIT to the forefront of technology? How about bask in the rooftop garden recently revamped by Google?

By blazing the Innovation Trail, you can.
