After a long and much-needed Labor Day weekend, the last thing you’re excited about is going back to the grind (cue violin). So, if you’re looking for some laughs to help you forget summer’s passing, head to ImprovBoston this week for the 2013 Boston Comedy Arts Festival.

According to the website, the festival, hosted by ImprovBoston, will “cover 3 stages” and feature improv, sketch and stand-up comedy. Boston is lucky to have such a thriving comedy community, and there’s no better way to celebrate and support our city’s unique talents than to laugh along in the audience (hard life we lead). Along with our own Boston acts, improv and comedy groups will come from all over the nation to perform right here in the hub.

Check out the festival’s calendar to secure your tickets now. Here’s a little roundup of comedians, improv and comedy groups that look interesting – and will all be performing this week.

Al Park – Funny guy, Al Park, will leave you laughing hard with his satirical humor. If he sounds familiar, it may be because you’ve seen him at The Comedy Studio across the river in Cambridge. Check out a preview here.

Minnesota Snow Job – This improv duo hails from Upstate, NY and now performs in Saint Paul and Minneapolis. With over a “dozen years” under their belt, they must be doing something right. Check out a sneak peek of their improv here.

ImprovBoston Mainstage Cast– If you haven’t already checked out ImprovBoston’s mainstage cast then it’s about time. The cast claims to “create a show that redefines itself with every performance.” Not to mention, the ImprovBoston theatre group received a 4 star rating on Yelp. Should make for good laughs.

Improv Asylum– This well-known North End comedy theatre brings its NXT ensemble cast to BostonImprov this Saturday. The cast will be performing their favorite sketches from this past summer. Improv Asylum’s hilarious shows never disappoint. Definitely recommend this one.

Chocolate Cake City – Back in 2005 this Emerson College sketch group blew up all over the internet with their parody video, “Brokeback to the Future.” You’ll probably get your share of laughs watching Chocolate Cake City take the stage. And I’m always a huge supporter my fellow Emersonians.

Ryan Schutt – This comedian hails from Washington, D.C. and has performed across the nation at various festivals and comedy tournaments. Here he is performing at the Capital City Showcase. Hilarious.

Casual Sex Offenders – If the name doesn’t scare you away, check out this NYC based improv group for a good time. I’m sure they’ll be providing a lot of candy as well.

There’s plenty more performances where these came from. Just check out the site and let us know which act you recommend.
