Alright, Boston. It’s officially autumn and Wednesday marks the first day of October. And while yes, this basically means it’s time to sort your horror movie collection for optimal viewing come Halloween, and double-fist pumpkin beers and spiced lattes, it also means embracing that inner-Oktoberfest sentiment that rings true once the foliage starts to become apparent.

We’ve already clued you into eight can’t miss Oktoberfest celebrations in Boston. Now, it’s time to start planning for an active event that celebrates Bostonian cyclists’ commitment to making the city and its surrounding areas friendlier to both bikers and pedestrians.

On Thursday, October 2, the Boston Cyclists Union is throwing its fourth annual Biketoberfest – though according to the registration page it’s the first time they’ve branded it as such.

As described by the Cyclists Union, Biketoberfest is a way for members to gather together “for a massive rally and fundraiser every fall—always with some of Boston’s finest beers on tap.”

The Union continues, “All year we work hard to achieve new cycletracks, better policies, stronger bike research, and fix 1,000 bikes for Bike to Market. It’s only fitting that at the end of our busiest season we raise our mugs with membership that supports better biking in Boston.”

Equal parts philanthropic-throw-down and collective pat on the back.

Biketoberfest isn’t necessarily exclusive but for non-members. A $25 entrance fee will give you a one-year membership to the union as well.

You’ll also be afforded the opportunity to enjoy the scorching hot beats of DJs Inner Action (Isabella Koen) and Sam Cassell (Jesse Kaminsky); free food from El Pelon, bGood, Flatbread Pizza; and beer from Cambridge Brewing Company with others expected too.

Biketoberfest kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, in what the Union refers to as the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology’s “crazy big ballroom.”
