With the 118th Boston Marathon happening right down the street, it’s hard to think about anything else. Our city is back on its feet, celebrating both the extraordinary athletes and the strength of the human spirit. It’s not only a great day for Boston but for the rest of the country as well. Today, everyone is Boston Strong.

But now that we’ve established that the Marathon is in fact the best event happening today – we want to make you aware of a few other things taking place on Monday, April 21 – including both local and national news.

Patriot’s Day Reenactments and Parade

It’s Patriot’s Day! And that means you will probably see quite a few folks dressed in Colonial attire. The holiday in Massachusetts and Maine signifies the start of the American Revolution. And here in Boston, it’s celebrated in a number of ways. This morning (very early) the Battle of Lexington was reenacted in Lexington, MA at 5:30 a.m. (yeah, we missed it too). But fortunately, there are events going on all day until 2p.m.

In addition, the reenactment of Paul Revere’s Midnight ride also occurred today. Even if you missed all the action, you’re sure to see someone riding horseback through the North End at some point.

Dumpling House in Cambridge Opens Today

In local restaurant news, Eater Boston is reporting that Dumpling House, located between Harvard Square and Central Square, is opening today. It will be a “trial” opening so the eatery will be accepting cash only. From pan fried to soup dumplings, this restaurant has you covered. Check out their Facebook page for more information.

White House Easter Egg Roll

Oh yeah – that. The 136th annual White House Easter Egg Roll is happening today. The day long event features a music stage, plenty of Easter egg rolling, and of course, President Obama. This year’s White House Easter Egg Roll theme is “Hop into Healthy, Swing into Shape.” Not sure how candy inside of eggs is considered healthy – but we’ll take it.

Midnight Madness at Sunset Cantina

On a local note, Allston’s Sunset Cantina is hosting a FREE food buffet tonight and Tuesday night from Midnight to 1 a.m. If for some reason, you find yourself gallivanting through the city after Midnight – this free food buffet is a must-try. Admission is free. Check out the details, here.

KFC’s “Double Down” Sandwich Returns

And on a more national front – I’m sorry to report that the KFC “Double Down” rumors are true. USA today is reporting that KFC is bringing the disgusting “Double Down” sandwich from 2010 back to their fast food chains, today. The sandwich consists of “two fried chicken filets instead of a bun,” according to the article. I’ve never eaten it and I never will – but if you’re looking to “double down,” there’s no better way.
