Calling all bakers (and snackers) in Boston – earlier this week, we filled you in on today’s South End Cookie Festival – and now we’re bringing you even more delicious cookie news. Next Sunday, December 15, the Boston Food Swap will host another kind of cookie party: The 3rd Annual Cookie Swap for a Cause.

And with the holiday season upon us, there’s no better time to give back to others. Fortunately, Boston Food Swap is providing Boston residents with a way to give back while also getting our fill of holiday treats. According to a release, the organization partnered with the Glad to Give campaign, which has offered to “donate $1 for every cookie swapped to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, a nonprofit devoted to raising funds to support pediatric cancer research.”

And for those who don’t know, Boston Food Swap has been helping people eat locally, sustainably and affordably since 2011. Essentially, the organization supports the exchange of homemade and homegrown food and helps to give “swappers” a way of sharing surplus food and goods in the community. So if you already prefer homemade items to store-bought items, this cookie swap event will be right up your alley.

Cofounder of Boston Food Swap, Lyn Huckabee expressed her enthusiasm for the event. She stated in a release “It’s a great way for those who love to bake or just eat cookies to come together and celebrate the season while giving back.”

The cookie swap is sponsored by a host of organizations including Taza Chocolate, Eat Boutique and America’s Test Kitchen, and will also host samplings of Polar Seltzer and Narragansett Beer. All sponsors will be providing prizes for the “best cookie” at the event as well as additional swag for attendees.

Bakers and snackers are welcome to the event. Bakers who bring at least 8 dozen cookies to the swap will get in for free while bakers who bring less than 8 dozen cookies will have to pay a small price of $10 for entry. And if baking just isn’t your thing, you can be a designated snacker for $20. The event will lasts from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Collaboratory 4.0, 40 Berkeley Street in Boston.
