Mayor Marty Walsh has a busy day Monday, January 20. His schedule, chock full of events and engagements, are almost all dedicated to remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Prior to MC-ing a number of performances and orations outside Boston’s historic Faneuil Hall in celebration, Mayor Walsh will make a few remarks at the Museum of Fine Arts for its MLK Day Open House.

With free admission as one of its perks, the MFA boats a bevy of distinguished guests and speakers on its docket, including the Mayor but also from the likes of students, teachers, and former government officials.

The Mayor will read his words at 12:00 noon after making an address at the 44th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast at the Boston Convention and Expo Center in Southie’s Innovation District and attending the 6th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, an event presented by the Mayor’s Office of Arts, Tourism and Special Events, Target and Boston Cares at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury.

At the MFA, Mayor Walsh will speak in between Jeremy Thompson of Haley House Transitional Employment Program, who will dictate President John F. Kennedy’s ambitious and optimistic inaugural address from 1961 as well as Walter Carrington, Former US Ambassador to Nigeria, who will read Abraham Lincoln’s heartfelt Gettysburg Address.

The Mayor will then head over to the Faneuil Hall jubilations where he’ll continue his day-long commemoration of Dr. King, the foremost leader of the civil rights era and champion of peaceful protests.

From 2:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. the Museum will invite anyone to speak their minds and thoughts on the late Dr. King and “to contribute their live voices to the public forum” in any manner they so see fit and appropriate.
