The day is here, Boston, where we as a city will write a new chapter in the annals of local history and ring in a new mayor after 20 years. Mayor-elect Marty Walsh will be officially sworn in Monday to succeed Mayor Menino, the grandfatherly watchdog who many residents have only known to occupy the City Hall office.

Mayor-elect Walsh will be sworn in on the campus of his alma mater, Boston College, in the hallowed arena known to us as Conte Forum, which, in fitting fashion, has seen its fair share of champions been made on the ice in years past.

Here, Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts Roderick Ireland will anoint Walsh as the next helmsman of The Hub, after which the soon-to-be-mayor will make his way to his new domain in City Hall to personally swear in Hardin L.K. Coleman, Ph.D., and Michael Loconto to the Boston School Committee. Following that, Walsh will hold his first public safety meeting behind closed doors before making his way to the Hynes Convention Center on downtown Boston’s Bolyston Street for a night of celebration and jubilation on his behalf.

The Mayor-elect will be sworn in already having made a handful of personnel announcements to fulfill the needs of his cabinet. Daniel Arrigg Koh, the general manager of Huffington Post Live and former advisor for Mayor Tom Menino, has been tapped as Mayor-elect Walsh’s Chief of Staff. When the Walsh administration takes over Koh will employ the expertise he’s gained under the leadership of Menino and Ariana Huffington.

Likewise, staunch Walsh supporter, lifelong Bostonian, and transition committee co-chair Felix Arroyo was named Chief of Health & Human Services after it was speculated that some of Walsh’s closest advisors would occupy at least some of his cabinet level positions.

Congratulations to Mayor-elect Walsh, his team, and to Boston. We look forward to embarking on this next phase of our city.
