On Thursday, Mayor Tom Menino and First Lady Angela Menino will receive the Delahunt Award for Extraordinary Public Service courtesy of Jane Doe Inc. for their work in the sector of sexual and domestic violence. The honor will be bestowed at Boston’s Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel.

The award highlights the Meninos’ initiatives in trying to prevent sexual and domestic assault in all aspects of life, from the streets to peoples’ homes. Among his many achievements in this area and elsewhere, are having co-founded Mayors Against Illegal Guns with New York City’s Michael Bloomberg, making Boston a safe haven for the LGBTQ community with active tolerance, and launching Employers Against Domestic Violence.

Also exemplifying the significant gravity of the award will be the guest list. Expected, but not limited to be, in attendance to honor Boston’s five-term mayor will be former Congressman William Delahunt, Jerry Rossi of The TJX Companies, Jim Klocke of the Boston Chamber of Commerce, Anne Marie Delaney of the Family Justice Center, Cheng Imm Tan of the City’s Office of New Bostonians and founder of the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence, Dr. Barbara Ferrer of the Boston Public Health Commission, Sandra Belhaimer of Neighborhood Health Plan, as noted by Jane Doe Inc.

Congratulations to you, Mayor and Mrs. Menino. I can’t think of a better way for you to transition out of office than to commend you for your service to all of those in need of the service provided by the likes of Jane Doe Inc.
