Boston’s Freedom Trail is getting a facelift. That’s all well and good, but only 2,ooo feet of the 2.5-mile link connecting 16 of Boston’s most celebrated and historical monuments will be receiving the upgrade. A new crowdfunding campaign, though, aims to present the entire Freedom Trail in a brand new way for people of all ages to enjoy.

If you tell me you never liked pop-up books as a tyke, I’m calling bullshit. They’re arguably the most engaging literary device for youngsters to begin their winding journey into the wide, wide world of written works. But The Freedom Trail Pop Up Book, a Kickstarter campaign with a goal of raising a total of $52,500 in the next 20 days, combines easy reading for kids, monumental history for adults, and precise pop-up art for everyone.

According to the funding page, the pop-up book is the brainchild of Denise Price, who wrote and illustrated the book after becoming “fascinated with Boston’s history, beauty, and the dedication the city has shown in preserving its monuments and landmarks.” Such is the charm of Boston’s past.

With the permission of the Freedom Trail Foundation, she “developed a succinct written history about the trail and its landmarks and created full color illustrations and architecturally accurate pop ups.”

With 20 days left to reach her goal, Price has already garnered backing from 81 donors amounting to $18,819. Funding will be used to cover the cost of printing, production, and shipping.

Here are a couple teasers for what the book is expected to include:

  • Detailed pop-ups of a full-color rendering of The Freedom Trail Foundation Medallion and the Frog Pond building on Boston Common
  • Fully three-dimensional, two-page pop-ups of The Massachusetts State House, Old State House, U.S.S. Constitution, King’s Chapel, Old North Church steeple and Faneuil Hall
  • Old Corner Bookstore Illustration with moveable sign 1717 to 1826
  • A pop-up of [the artist’s] interpretation of Paul Revere’s [actually Henry Pelam’s] etching of the Boston Massacre
  • And more!
