Defined by innovation and an undercurrent of rich history, from our leading companies and cutting edge startups to our government and top tier colleges, Boston inspires. This photo series aims to capture it. Enjoy!

With the warmer weather this weekend, and despite many leaving the city for the long holiday weekend, Boston was bustling. This photo of Boston’s famous Quincy Market in Faneuil Hall was taken on Good Friday by professional photographer Marc (Flickr name: cactusautobus — check out more of his awesome recent work there).

The photo captures the area’s beginnings, as a pavilion offering expanded space for vendors to set up shop. The original Quincy Market building was constructed in 1824, just two years after Boston was incorporated as a city in 1822. In the early 1970s a decaying Quincy Market building and more demand for retail and vendor space led to further expansion of the photographed area, completed in 1976 and now known as Faneuil Hall Marketplace.
