You may not have called it (or maybe you did?), but over the years, South Boston has become an increasingly popular hub for craft brews. The hopping area of Boston now includes Harpoon’s Brewery and Beer Hall, The Boston Beer Company’s headquarters, and Trillium in Fort Point. And according to the Boston Business Journal, it looks as though a new brewery could potentially be joining the action.

Castle Island Brewing Co., a new Boston-based craft brewery, is looking for a home in South Boston. The Boston Business Journal reports that the owner and entrepreneur, Adam Romanow, is currently looking at spaces “in and around the triangle between Dorchester Ave. and Old Colony Ave., near Andrew Square,” but is also looking outside South Boston – “possibly in Chelsea, Everett, Malden or Quincy.”

On the Castle Island Brewing Co. website, Romanow states that the company is:

“Looking for a home for our brewery and hope to open in 2014. Our plans include a production facility and visitor center where you’ll be able to take a tour, try some samples, attend events, and buy über-fresh beer to enjoy at home.”

The entrepreneur seems poised to act on the current craft brewing trend sweeping the country. The Boston Business Journal reported that there were only “30 members of the Massachusetts Brewers Guild,” only a few years back. “Now there are nearly 50.” This growth should speak to the rapid rate at which craft brewing has caught on in the last few years.

On their website, the brewery shares that they have a “lineup of flagship beers and seasonal releases that challenge traditions and push boundaries.”

We’ll have to wait and see whether Castle Island is able to secure a space in South Boston – but regardless, we’re pretty certain Boston residents will welcome this brewery with open arms and plenty of pours.
