Going back to work after a nice (and much-deserved) Thanksgiving break can always be a little tough. But fortunately there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it comes in the form of a cocktail.

And being that today is the 80th anniversary of the prohibition’s ending, there is even more reason to celebrate the week with a libation. Fortunately, we’ve found the perfect cocktail to help you toast both the end of a long week and the repeal: The Martinez. If you’re already a martini fan, then we’re sure you’ll also be a fan of its precursor and cousin to the Manhattan. The Martinez cocktail was actually created in the late 1800’s due to the creation and growing popularity of vermouth.

So whether you’re looking to hit the town and find this drink in Boston, or make it for yourself, we’ve got you covered.

Buy It

If vermouth sounds right up your alley, then head to Union Square’s CasaB restaurant and bar. This pre-prohibition drink served at the Spanish and Caribbean tapas restaurant, is described on the menu as “sweet, fragrant and distinctive.” And after trying it for myself, I can attest that it is indeed all of the above. The drink is the perfect mix of vermouth, gin and sweet liqueur. I highly recommend heading out to Somerville this weekend and giving it a try for yourself.

Make It

Or if you decide that Somerville is just a tad too far, you’re in luck. The restaurant provides the recipe (below) for all of the guests. Just make a quick dash to the liquor store, combine the ingredients and toast the Prohibition’s repeal with this tasty concoction.

1 dash of boker’s bitters
