The holidays are coming and with them, endless dinners and functions that require you to bring along the classiest, most universally-loved vessel of holiday cheer you can muster: a nice bottle of wine.

Prices for a ‘good’ bottle of wine can sometimes run pretty high. Earlier this year, a wine shop in Dubai International Airport issued a press release announcing that they are selling the most expensive red wine ever retailed for the hefty price of $195,000 per bottle, according to Eater. Chances are this falls outside of your holiday gift budget, but there are still a few wines with a less shocking sticker price worth splurging on. And what better time to splurge on your wine than the holidays? All the extra time spent with your family is bound to give you both a reason to drink and the license to bragging rights when you offer up some quality libations.

A word of caution: don’t plan on shipping a quality bottle directly from the winery to a friend or family member (or yourself) as a gift. As of now, it’s currently illegal for wineries from out of state to ship wine directly to their customers, though legislation is currently in the works to make it easier to have the perfect vino shipped directly to your doorstep.

“Everyone perceives wine in a different way, because everyone’s palate is slightly different…But there’s definitely wines out there that I would say are more universal,” said Bernatchez.

Bernatchez added that while price points are not always an indicator, they can help point out higher-quality wines. Here are his best suggestions for a variety of wines that are the best buy for your buck:
