In the cover of darkness, I snuck downtown, into the bowels of downtown crossing, where Suffolk construction crews are working to erect Boston’s tallest residential building, the Millennium Tower. Of course, by “snuck” I mean, I got off at Downtown Crossing Station around 10 p.m. Saturday night, May 17, whipped out an iPhone and started taking some pictures of the construction pit and DTX Station’s entrance.

Construction work is set to come to an end in 2016. When all is said and done, Millennium Tower will stand over 600 feet tall, atop the renovated Burnham building. This first set of pictures (scroll down) will serve as the first in a weekly series, showcasing the dramatic changes taking place in the heart of the city.
