On Tuesday, people will gather at the Hynes Convention Center to participate in a tribute event exactly one year after the devastating Boston Marathon bombings. Taking place just steps from the finish line, where dual pressure cooker explosives combusted, the event will feature reflective remarks from high-profiled politicos and commemorate those who lost their lives, those who were injured, and those family and friends directly effected.

Slated speakers include Mayor Marty Walsh, Governor Deval Patrick, former Mayor Tom Menino, Boston Athletic Association Executive Director Tom Grilk and Vice President Joe Biden.

Speakers on behalf of those who tragically lost their lives will also say a few words, as will first responders and medical personnel. Addresses are slated to expected to begin around noon. The memorial will end with a stately flag-raising and a sure-to-be powerful moment of silence around 2:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

“On April 15, we recall the courage, compassion, and commitment of our great city and its people,” said Mayor Walsh previously in a statement. “Through this event, Boston again stands as one: paying tribute to all those affected by last year’s events and once again showing the world that Boston’s spirit of resiliency lives on.”

According to the Boston Globe, “Because of the tribute, the Copley MBTA Station will be closed from noon to 3 p.m.. Green Line trains will roll straight from the Hynes Convention Center to Arlington Station.”

The event is put on by the BAA in tandem with The One Fund Boston. And as much as they’d appreciate every Bostonian taking part in the event and paying their respects, the tribute is invitation only.
