UPDATE: Charlotte Golar Richie said of her endorsement of State Representative Marty Walsh:

“During the race for the Preliminary Election, I described Boston as a Tale of Two Cities and I talked about the haves and have-nots. I am convinced that Marty understands the struggles of working people because he has lived through it. I know he will stand up for people who’ve been marginalized and disenfranchised, because they are his neighbors. I know that he represents the hopes and aspirations of the side of town that I’ve advocated for throughout my career, and I believe he will stand up for this segment of our city, as our next mayor.

“Marty has made a concrete commitment to diversity in his administration – and we’ll see a Walsh administration that is representative of the entire city. On the issue of jobs and economic development, Marty has promised to implement strong policies that will level the playing field and all business owners from Boston’s diverse neighborhoods and women-businesses to compete. Public safety will be a top priority for Marty – and he will ensure that the toughest neighborhoods of Boston are transformed into safe places to work and raise a family.  And Marty will create an Office of Youth Affairs to ensure that our young people – those who are excelling and those who are disconnected from work and school – have opportunities for education, employment, leadership and advocacy.

“I trust that Marty will live up to these commitments, and that as Mayor he will foster a spirit of inclusiveness and collaboration.”

Speaking in front of First Parish Church in Dorchester at a press conference Saturday morning, Charlotte Golar Richie will formally announce her endorsement for State Rep. Marty Walsh for Boston mayor. The news comes just as Rep. Walsh locked down advocacy from the LGBTQ community to go along with those from former Boston mayor contenders John Barros and Felix Arroyo.

Rep. Walsh’s rival opponent, City Councilor John Connolly, has generally led throughout the entire race — according to the latest polls, anyway — and has pulled in some respectable endorsements of his own, though none of them carry the political clout of Walsh’s Golar Richie-Barros-Arroyo trifecta.

In the preliminary election which whittled the race down to the current two candidates, Golar Richie was bested only by them, coming in third but raking in 15,536 votes cast — about 13% — with a sizable chunk of the woman vote Connolly has owned throughout. Now, Walsh’s endorsements are universally spread across various demographics from women, to minorities, and to the LGBTQ community.

Stay tuned for the latest poll numbers and mayoral details as we’ll be sure to keep you updated and let you know how the latest endorsement for Rep. Walsh affects the race.
