Earlier this week, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren took to the chamber floor to honor who she deems “one of the great leaders in the history of Boston,” Mayor Thomas Menino. As we continue to cooly creep through December and into the New Year, Menino’s 20-year tenure as Mayor of Boston is quickly approaching its end.

Warren’s 5-minute speech was studded with praise, celebrating all that Menino has accomplished over the past two decades, from revitalizing the waterfront and Innovation district to Dudley Square in Roxbury and making a positive, lasting impact on the eclectic collection of neighborhoods in between.

He, as Warren so eloquently described, “created a city whose innovative potential is unlimited.”

She went on to cite that Menino is renowned for his ability to appear at neighborhood events and celebrations of unlimited variety, his willingness to personally meet and greet Bostonians of all scope, and, perhaps most importantly, she acknowledged an often underrated and unperceived facet to Menino’s success: the unconditional support of his wife of nearly 50 years, Angela.
