Former Boston Mayor Tom Menino has died at the age of 71. The news broke Thursday morning, October 30, just before 11:30 a.m.

And Twitter reacted – instantly. Tweets are pouring in from local and national media outlets, political figures and a hashtag, #RIPMyMayor, is building.

Menino, the longest-serving mayor in Boston history, was beloved for, among many reasons, having a presence outside the walls of City Hall. One Boston Globe poll showed nearly half the city had met face-to-face with the former mayor.

His tenure at the helm of Boston spanned 20 years, from 1993 to 2013.

BostInno will continue to add to the below collection of tweets as more are posted.
