State Representative and Boston mayoral hopeful Marty Walsh has tacked on two more esteemed endorsements to his continuously growing list of such this morning from Mattapan Square, receiving support from State Senator Linda Dorcena Forry and the Revered Jeffrey Brown.

The dual affirmation comes just after Rep. Walsh duked it out in his first televised bout with mayoral opponent City Councilor John Connolly. Per the latest polls, Connolly boasts a lead over the former union official when considering demographics like minority women, something that the Walsh campaign is sure to close the gap on with Sen. Dorcena Forry’s support. The Senator from Suffolk County’s 1st district owns the distinction of being just the second Haitian-American to hold public office in Massachusetts.

She’s also grew up in Walsh’s native Dorchester and still resides there with her family.

Reverend Brown could also help to mobilize minority voters across The Hub due to his extensive work with the Boston TenPoint Coalition, a group which aims to rally community members around issues affecting black and Latino youth. The revered has been lauded by ever-popular outgoing Mayor Tom Menino, as noted by the Boston Globe, praising “Brown as a minister who ‘did things the right way’ by bringing people together to solve their problems.”

The reverend stepped down from his post with the Coalition earlier this year to employ the use of his crime prevention strategies in cities nationwide.

Sen. Dorcena Forry currently serves as the Chair of the Massachusetts legislature’s Joint Committee on Municipalities and Regional Government.

Connolly has received solid endorsements of his own, but few, if any, carry the kind of clout that Walsh’s do. But endorsements can only do so much for a candidate, and really it comes down to the endorser’s ability to assemble their own respective supporters and get them to the polls.
