UPDATE: Check out our 3 major takeaways and analysis from Monday’s Facebook Q&A

At 1:30 p.m. ET on Monday, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh will host a Facebook Q&A on the City of Boston’s page. This is the second time Mayor Walsh will take to social media to try and prove he’s a leader of the digital age, having hosted a similarly-styled Twitter Q&A back in January. His predecessor, 20-year-Mayor Tom Menino, didn’t even keep a computer in his office during his tenure.

According to the Facebook page, the mayor will entertain questions in two parts, the first being relative to education and the second to innovation. His Twitter Q&A had no real topical structure, with users simply throwing any question at Mayor Walsh that popped into their heads, whether about the unsightly architecture of City Hall to what his favorite breakfast food is; most of which, though, the mayor answered happily and as quickly as possible.

“When I took office in January, I pledged to listen, learn and lead,” said Mayor Walsh in a statement on the Facebook page. “From town meetings to social media, I’m hearing what constituents envision for our city’s future. Facebook’s Q&A event is a digital and social way that makes it easy for constituents to join the dialogue, and I’m looking forward to another great firsthand conversation on Monday.”

Mayor Walsh has professed that he lacks a certain technical knowledge, one that’s the hallmark of the burgeoning Innovation Class here in Boston. So far, his team has armed him with the basic understanding of Facebook, Twitter and also Vine, but as Mayor Walsh is adamant about being a man of the people, I’d expect to see plenty more Q&As using social media platforms, perhaps even in the ever-popular and farther-reaching Reddit AMA format.

Be sure to use the trends #ourboston and #socialbos on Facebook to boost the likelihood of your question being answered. The Q&A kicks off at 1:30 p.m., so be sure to have your questions ready. Happy chatting!
