Despite the at least nine inches of snow that Winter Storm Nika has dropped on Boston, it appears as though we’re nearing the end of her wrath. Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has announced that the snow emergency and parking ban be lifted at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday night.

“It was important that parking be available on our main arteries tonight for our businesses and restaurants,” Mayor Walsh said in a statement. “Our crews are still out there working hard, widening the streets and targeting intersections. We’re focused on getting the city cleaned up in advance of the expected cold temperatures and any snow that comes our way this weekend.”

And he’s not lying about how hard Boston crews have been working to rid the streets of Winter Storm Nika’s excrement. According to the mayor’s press office, “More than 500 pieces of equipment” remain active on the roads to help Boston’s roadways remain traversable.

Drivers have two hours after a snow emergency and parking ban to maintain the reduced parking rate at select areas. Discounted parking will be available until 7:00 p.m. tonight.

As I Tweeted out last night, and to be heeded until 5:00 p.m. Wednesday night,

According to statistics from this afternoon, “138 tickets have been issued and 19 vehicles have been towed in violation of today’s parking ban. During the evening commute, Boston Police Department Officers will be positioned at 100 intersections.”

If you’re at home and have to hit the road for whatever reason, it’s suggested that you use the MBTA which, surprisingly, is faring well and is helping to keep Boston from taking to its roadways and causing any detrimental traffic and/or unfortunate accidents.

The Mayor’s 24-Hour Hotline has received 2,100 calls since midnight. Additional staff are on-hand and residents with weather-related questions or concerns, including down power lines, down trees or icy conditions, should call (617) 635-4500.
