The Government Center head house is gone.

On March 22, Government Center closed for what’s expected to be two years. The massive construction project will not only improve, but replace the entire station, head house and all. Somehow, the head house managed to remain standing for about a month and a half after the closure.

“The demolition of the old head house on City Hall Plaza began [Wednesday],” MBTA spokesperson Joe Pesaturo said in an email. “It will be completely gone by Friday.”

Back in March, Dan Beaulieu, the T’s project manager told the Boston Globe, “The below-grade elements are the bulk of the work … The head house is almost the bride and groom on the wedding cake.”

Not 100 percent sure I agree with that, but I’m no expert. Either way, come 2016, a new prettier head house will (or should) be up by 2016.
