T-riders are standing still on platforms Tuesday morning waiting for Red Line trains to arrive, after a signal problem at Alewife Station sparked widespread delays.

MassDOT spokesperson Kelly Smith told BostInno in a email that “normal service has resumed but there are residual delays.” The T first posted to Twitter that severe delays were occurring around 8 a.m. on the Red Line.

Meanwhile, above ground, it appeared a MBTA bus may have run into a spot of trouble itself, as multiple people tweeted that a bus had caught fire near the Westin Hotel at the corner of Exeter and Huntington Ave. However, T spokesman Joe Pesaturo told BostInno that wasn’t the case.
