Here in New England, we’re big fans of coffee. Whether it’s an iced Dunkies or a hot cup of joe from the local coffee shop, we’re not ashamed to admit that our mornings are totally dependent upon caffeine. In fact, there’s rarely a morning that goes by where I don’t see hundreds of busy Bostonians rushing to work, coffee in-hand.

And now, it looks as though our coffee obsession has finally been confirmed by a new study. Men’s Health recently looked at U.S. cities with the most coffee drinkers and, according to the I love Coffee blogspot and Seattle Pi, the study examined the “percentage of households that own coffeemakers and buy coffee; household average spent on coffee; coffee shops per capita; percentage of people who drink coffee and who drink five-plus cups a day.”

Below, are the maps created by Ryoko Itawa of I Love Coffee illustrating the coffee obsessed study. From the looks of it, the south could really use a cup of joe. But us, New Englanders, are heavily caffeinated and doing just fine it seems.

While Boston didn’t quite make the top 10 list, our city did rank as number 15th most java junkie city. However, other New England cities did land in the top 3 including: Portland, ME (#1), Manchester, NH (#2), Burlington, VT (#3). Guess it goes without saying that there’s clearly a lot of caffeinated folks in the New England area.
