Calling all South End foodies, it looks as though there is a Barcelona Restaurant and Wine Bar in the neighborhood’s future. The restaurant will be taking over the former Sibling Rivalry space that closed up shop earlier this year. Barcelona Restaurant and Wine Bar, a popular tapas chain, is already in Brookline, MA with other locations in CT, NY, DC and GA.

A call into Barcelona’s real estate representative, Colliers International, confirmed that terms have been agreed to but declined further comment at this time. The lease, reportedly signed last week, confirms that this popular tapas chain will be making it’s way to the South End sometime in the (hopefully near) future.

This will be the Spanish tapas restaurant’s second Boston location. The first is located in the heart of Brookline’s Washington Square on Beacon Street. The restaurant serves up everything from Paella, delicious tapas such as patatas bravas and empanadas, as well as a very extensive wine list. The bar’s list of Spanish wines and champagnes is long enough to please even the worst (read: best) of Spanish wine snobs – no shame.

As most of you probably remember – the former South End restaurant, Sibling Rivalry, closed last April after being open for nearly ten years. Many Boston residents were curious what was to become of the space, perfectly situated amongst the hustle and bustle of the South End’s booming restaurant scene.

The Barcelona Restaurant’s forthcoming South End location will be at 525 Tremont Street. No other information has been provided at the time but we’ll keep you updated with developments as the restaurant’s planning progresses.
