Just when I thought I’d seen every fall pasta dish there ever was (in Boston anyway), Piattini Wine Cafe proved me wrong. This charming Newbury Street restaurant and bar, tucked away on the ground level across the street from Anthropologie, is ideal for pasta and wine lovers, alike. And, they offer the perfect fall menu for all autumn food fans.

Upon eating at the restaurant, I learned that “Piattini” means small plate in Italian. And this is essentially the premise behind the menu, which offers tapas-like, small plates of Italian foods. And the best part is that each Italian dish on the restaurant’s menu is paired with complementary wine. The restaurant also serves a variety of “wine flights” for those terrible decision makers out there.

In addition to small plates, the restaurant also offers full-size entree selections. And if you’re not keen on sharing different pastas (hey, no judgment), then I recommend trying Piattini’s full-size entree, Penne con Zucca. This penne pasta dish, sprinkled with gorgonzola cheese, roasted Butternut squash, herbed chicken breast, and (the best ever) apple-cider sauce, contains some of the best fall flavors. And it (if you prefer) can also be served as a small dish to share.

Personally, I felt the apple-cider sauce complimented the butternut squash especially well. The fall twist on the chicken pasta dish made for the perfect mix of autumn flavors, and I can honestly say that I enjoyed it just as much as I enjoyed the restaurant’s ambience.

I’ve been known to have a bit of a North End bias when it comes to Italian food. However, I think the wine cafe factor of Piattini combined with delicious food and friendly service makes this Newbury Street Italian restaurant a must.
