Yesterday we had our first snow of the year here in Boston. And while many of you probably reacted with a few choice words, the fact remains it’s going to continue cooling down. But as the chilly temps and snow start to surround us this fall and winter, it’s important to stay positive. And by stay positive, I mean indulge mindlessly on warm, comfort-style food. Because who really craves a cold salad when it’s approaching 30 degrees in Boston? Not me.

And that’s why, yesterday, I headed to Anthem for an after-work comfort food fix. The Faneuil Hall restaurant serves up a variety of delicious fare and its chic yet cozy ambience is exactly where you want to be when its freezing outside. The restaurant’s wooden tables and tavern-like atmosphere fits with the Faneuil Hall vibe but the restaurant’s bar is quite sophisticated. I noticed a fairly large after-work crowd enjoying their happy hour at one of the many high top tables inside Anthem. And most of them were enjoying appetizers and dinner in addition to a nice glass of wine.

For my dinner, I chose Anthem’s Lobster Mac n’ Cheese. Now I know we’ve all seen a mac n’ cheese dish a million times (and eaten it just as many) but it’s impossible to get tired of noodles and cheese. And this mac n’ cheese was no exception. Fortunately, the dish did have a delicious winter twist with added buttery clumps of lobster as well as a four cheese sauce. Yes – four cheeses, people.

The mac n’ cheese was smooth and creamy. The rich and cheesy carbs made for the perfect dish on a cold night. And, if you prefer, you have the choice of Tasso ham instead of lobster in your mac n’ cheese – the choice is yours. But either way, you really can’t go wrong.

The restaurant also serves other comfort food including chicken with mashed potatoes and a meatloaf stack dish – both of which sound divine. So if you’re looking for a cozy restaurant with some very cozy dishes, I recommend heading over Anthem in Faneuil Hall. Just trust me, you won’t regret that mac n’ cheese.
