Winter Storm Nika has passed, Boston, and the sun is shining, hopefully melting away the piles of snow that the ruthless squall dumped across the city. But exactly how much snow did Nika unload on us? Actually, it was quite in line with the predictions made by the collection of Boston area weatherpersons, all of whom called between eight and 12 inches.

According to CBS Boston, which pulled snow accumulation data from the National Weather Service, Boston proper was subjected to a solid 9.3-inches of snow, but its neighborhoods stockpiled substantially more. Though it doesn’t list every neighborhood community within city limits, the data notes that Jamaica Plain recorded 10.5-inches total and West Roxbury 11-inches total.

Exemplifying just how potent Nika was, consider that West Roxbury didn’t even register in the top ten communities with the most snow accumulation. Taking top honors, if one could call it that, was Worcester suburb Millbury, Mass. which is currently sitting under 13.3-inches. Douglas, Mass.; Acton, Mass.; Lunenburg, Mass.; and Warren, Mass. rounded out the top five with more that one foot apiece.

Be sure to shovel out your apartment, sidewalk, car, and elderly neighbor because there appears to be more snow on the horizon as well. The NWS’s forecast for the weekend is snow showers for Saturday night and Sunday, a 30 percent chance and 50 percent chance, respectively. How many inches it’s thought to bring remains unknown at this point.
